According to the CEO of C-STEMP construction skills training, and Convener of the Construction Artisans Award (CAA), Anthony Aboki Okwa, all is set for the 2nd edition of the awards which has been dedicated to celebrating brilliant artisans in the construction industry.
The importance of CAA, he said, derives from the fact that artisans are the bedrock of the housing industry.
‘’Without them we wouldn’t have the products that we have in the entire housing environment. We felt that it is important that we project this often neglected players in the construction and real estate sector, and that is why the CAA was initiated,’’ he said.
The Construction Artisans Awards 2020, which was conceived as part of a holistic strategy to generate excitement and interest in the construction trades is set to hold at the Abuja National Stadium from 2nd to 4th March 2020 showcasing over 30,000 artisans from all sates and cutting across various trades.
Speaking on the impact so far, Okwa said it has been very considerable.
‘’The training has been going on. The first edition was in January this year, and the impact was phenomenal. We had artisans from across the country. The event was also preceded by state and regional competitions and about 10, 000 artisans were sensitised.
‘’Now that we have sensitised them we are trying to bring them in to standardise their efforts and take their level of competence higher through the certification that are offered to them.’’
The skills competitions offers a unique opportunity for skilled artisans and apprentices to showcase the knowledge, skills and experience they have acquired over the years in order for them to be celebrated by their employers, friends, families as well as communities.
The Awards also offers construction companies, real estate developers, equipment and tools as well as materials manufacturers to showcase their products and demonstrate their commitment to quality craftsmanship by showcasing their products and services especially to the artisans who not only directly handle them, but very often determine their patronage.
The goal of the Construction Artisans Awards is, to showcase and encourage the vocational skills of artisans in the building and construction sector and to celebrate them.
