The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has firmly stated that it was not involved in the planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and will not partake in any activity it was not initially party to.
In a press briefing in Abuja, TUC President Comrade Festus Osofo urged President Bola Tinubu to swiftly authorize the importation of food items from any part of the world within two weeks to alleviate the country’s hardship.
Furthermore, TUC accused the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank of driving up the cost of living in Nigeria by advocating for the removal of subsidies on petroleum products and electricity tariffs. TUC demanded that the government cease following the directives of these global organizations.

While not directly addressing the NLC’s protest plans, TUC’s recommendations and solutions, to be submitted to the federal government through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, did not mention support for the protest.
Comrade Osifo emphasized, “It is when you jointly agree, right? That you want to do something. When you agree jointly, that is the way to go and along the line you now decided that you are not doing it again.” He challenged journalists to show any formal agreement between TUC and NLC regarding the protest.
He concluded by questioning if any TUC member was present at the NLC protest, highlighting the clear distinction between the two unions.
