A R16 billion eco-city in South Africa’s fastest-growing residential area has begun development. This is the first of its kind in South Africa and will offer a premium lifestyle within an eco-conscious settlement.
What is the eco-city?
The eco-city will be called Blythedale Coastal Estate and is already setting its own standards when it comes to progressive multi-purpose developments in South Africa.
Blythedale is located about an hour from the Durban CBD, just ten minutes north of Ballito and 25 minutes from King Shaka International Airport. The estate is located roughly halfway between Durban and Richards Bay, two of the biggest trading hubs in Southern Africa.
Partnering with the Zwelebantu Dube Community, Blythedale Coastal Estate is a blueprint for inclusionary housing. The estate is set to offer something for everyone and will include five communities, each with their own distinctive character and aesthetic.
A unique spin on investment
In an unusual twist, the developers are offering a unique investment opportunity to people wanting to become shareholders in the country’s first eco-city.
A spokesperson from Uprise Africa, which is facilitating the crowdfunding investment project and says, “South Africans can become a shareholder in this unique project for as little as R3000. Our goal is to raise R45,000,000 to fund this premium project. Thus far, we have 61 investors onboard.”
In order to make property development available to all South Africans, the team at Blythedale Coastal Estate have devised a way for investors to invest in a ground-breaking project and earn dividends from sales. This way of investing allows South Africans to be involved in a project that they might normally not have been able to afford to invest in.
The eco-city and job creation
As the eco-city development moves into full swing, there will be expansion in a number of areas including an effort to improve job creation, skills development, education opportunities and growth in tourism.
Some of the facilities and features of Blythedale include retirement villages, sectional title homes, fractional ownership, timeshare units, apartments, affordable housing and a professional film studio.
