A middle-aged man, Samuel Omojola, has killed his father’s tenant in Akure, Ondo State over a dispute on outstanding rent.
The Guardian learnt the suspect, Omojola, hit the tenant with a plank on his head during a fight that ensued between his father and the tenant at his Oke Ijebu residence, Akure.
According to sources, the tenant allegedly insulted the suspect’s father over the rent, which resulted in an argument and escalated into a fight.
It was learnt that the landlord had called his son, who rushed home and hit the deceased with a plank on the head without knowing the cause of the disagreement.
On getting to know that the tenant had died in the brawl, some people in the neighbourhood rushed to the scene to set the house ablaze but timely intervention of homicide detectives from Ijapo Police Station saved the day.
The sources said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Ijapo Division drafted a team of detectives to arrest the suspect, which doused the tension and pacified the angry mob.
Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Funmi Odunlami, to react failed but a police officer hinted that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Akure, for further investigation.
