The Senate has commenced a two-day public hearing on tax reform bills, engaging key economic and financial stakeholders.
The hearing at the National Assembly includes top government officials such as Finance Minister Wale Edun and FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji.
Also present are NNPCL’s Group CEO Mele Kyari, customs chief Adewale Adeniyi, Federal Executive Council members, and agency heads.
Senator Sani Musa, Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, emphasized transparency and alignment with national economic interests.
The reforms aim to modernize tax laws, ensuring fairness, equity, and inclusivity while addressing existing policy inefficiencies.
Discussions will tackle taxation challenges such as tax evasion, double taxation, and policy inconsistencies affecting business growth.

The Senate intends to establish a tax framework that boosts investor confidence, enhances revenue, and supports economic expansion.
Senator Musa urged stakeholders, including civil society and private sector representatives, to participate actively in shaping policies.
Previously, the Senate suspended the Tax Reform Bills following public controversies and objections from northern governors.
Consultations with the executive arm and the National Economic Council were initiated to resolve issues surrounding the bills.
