The Edo State Government has launched “Operation Plan Edo,” a project aimed at recertifying building plans and gathering data for the socioeconomic needs of communities in Benin.
Isoken Omo, the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, told journalists that the initiative, which will begin in the Ugbor district of Benin City, was an expansion of Operation Show Your Building Plan.
She applauded building owners who had completed the Operation Show Your Building Plan initiative.
She promised that all applications had been expedited and that over 400 approvals had already been awarded to individuals who had gone through the process.
She noted that the state government, through the programme, would be able to collate needs of communities which in turn would enable it to provide relevant services to Edo people.
She said, “The programme enables the government to know what services and infrastructure the people need. The Operation Plan Edo will involve various ministries, such as education, roads and bridges, health and power.”
Isoken, therefore, called on citizens to cooperate with officials of the ministries and provide necessary information to help plan the city and state in line with its 30-year master plan.
She condemned the attacks on its staff by residents, warning that government would bring the perpetrators to book.
