President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, for setting a new world record in chess, highlighting the feat as a testament to Nigerian resilience, self-belief, and ingenuity on the global stage.
Onakoya recently broke the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, playing for over 58 hours and winning every match along the way.
In a statement by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised Onakoya, who is also the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, for his remarkable achievement and for using the opportunity to raise funds for African children to learn and find opportunities through chess.
The President emphasized that Onakoya’s accomplishment reflects the audacity of Nigeria’s youth to effect positive change and innovate solutions, even in the face of challenges. He noted that Nigerian youths have consistently demonstrated excellence across various fields, showcasing that great achievements can arise from humble beginnings.
