Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced the introduction of a price control mechanism to address the rising cost of food items in the state.
He revealed that the state government’s rebranded bulk purchasing company, Gateway Trading Company, would soon begin operations, allowing residents to access food at more affordable prices.
During a meeting with market leaders, led by the Iyaloja General, Yemisi Abass, at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, Abiodun also declared the suspension of all market levies except for development and environmental levies.

Additionally, the Governor warned against the collection of illegal fees in markets and promised strict enforcement through a market task force in all 20 local government areas. He emphasized that those caught violating the new rules would face legal consequences.
Abiodun also highlighted plans to provide farmers with grants, loans, and farm implements to boost food production, while market traders would benefit from low-interest loans through the Ogun Empowerment Scheme.

This initiative is part of his administration’s effort to ease the financial burden on citizens and prevent market exploitation.
