The statement said the meeting was convened at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, who “directed the Department of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations to convene a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress for Monday, September 18, 2023.”
“The minister said it was important that the unions sit with the government to resolve all pending matters to avert further disruption to the economy,” the statement added.
The NLC has been threatening an indefinite strike to protest the hardship and suffering caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
The union had earlier embarked on a two-day warning strike, which ended on Friday.
It is hoped that the meeting today will help to resolve the issues and avert the impending strike.
