The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) is reaffirming its commitment to cost management excellence in the construction industry through enhanced international collaboration.
This commitment was underscored at the recent 44th International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) meeting held in Ghana, where representatives from over 15 countries, including Nigeria, gathered to discuss best practices in cost engineering and project management.
The ICEC, a non-profit organization established in 1976, provides a global platform for cost engineering professionals, fostering cooperation and knowledge-sharing across continents.
As a long-standing ICEC member, NIQS has leveraged this partnership to advance professional development, increase capacity-building efforts, and adopt international cost management standards.
NIQS President Kene Nzekwe, represented by Deputy President Dr. Aminu Bashir, led the Nigerian delegation, which included key members such as Abdulkadir Rasheed, Secretary for Professional Development & Library (SPDL), and Assistant Secretary-General Olajide Olamilokun.

The conference also hosted the African Association of Quantity Surveyors (AAQS) executive council meeting, offering NIQS a chance to connect with African leaders in the profession. Discussions included initiatives to bolster the African quantity surveying profession and strategies for collaborative growth across the continent.
Dr. Bashir emphasized NIQS’s dedication to broadening its participation in ICEC, focusing on research, advocacy, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. “The NIQS-ICEC partnership is pivotal to our mission of advancing cost management standards and establishing Nigeria as a leader in construction cost management,” Bashir stated.
With a strengthened commitment to global partnerships, NIQS aims to equip Nigerian quantity surveyors with the skills and knowledge required to meet the evolving demands of the industry, reinforcing its status as a leading authority in construction cost management in Nigeria.
