The Nigerian Institute of Architects has said it will work closely with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria to ensure that architects who pass the required exams are registered with the council.
The National President, Enyi Ben-Eboh, said this at the NIA Lagos Chapter’s annual meeting on Saturday.
He said, “We are moving forward as a strong and united institute. A lot of you may have been disillusioned by what happened in the past. A lot of people have lost hope, particularly those who took exams and for several years have not been able to get any feedback. I want to assure you that your matter would be one of the first things to be discussed with ARCON as soon as it is constituted.
“We would ensure that nobody is left behind in the scheme of things, and going forward that symbiotic relationship that exists between NIA and ARCON will come back to what it is.”
The Chairman, NIA, Lagos State Chapter, David Majekodunmi, said, in his reaction, said, “The Lagos State Chapter does not believe in the ARCON CPD. We are coming to that time, where every architect in Lagos will have their seal, this is not in contradiction to ARCON but to control quackery in Lagos.”
It has been done with the estate surveyors. Talks have been going on with the Lagos State Government where every registered architect would have the power to build institutional buildings.
“We are pushing to the government an Architectural Intervention Programme, where some of the works of the ministry will be outsourced to us. We would have collaboration with the public sector where we would be having training together so that what happened on Gerald Road, we would put a stop to it.”
