NASS To Hold Critical Stakeholders Meeting On Housing-Egwu

In a bid to proffer enduring solutions to the Housing problems in the country, the Senate Committee on housing is set to hold an intensive interactive session with critical stakeholders in the housing sector.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Housing, Senator Sam Egwu made this known in Abuja, while speaking with Africa Housing news at the investiture ceremony of the 19th President of the Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria, Dr Victor Onukwugha, adding that the interactive session which is to hold in April this year will focus on addressing issues relating to housing bills.

According to him, it became imperative for such a session to hold, in other to review the various bills before the committee, hear the opinions of housing experts and foster development in the housing sector.

“Homelessness is a serious issue. Many are unable to pay their rents and have been forced out by landlords. How do we help our people with decent and affordable housing, and rental? Very soon, the senate committee on housing would be inviting you and other stakeholders in the housing sector for an interaction for us to come up with possible laws that will help in moving this sector forward.

I want to say that as a former governor, I know that there is not much you can do about the state executives at the state level. And at that, we shall give you all necessary support, and ensure that all relevant laws that will create enabling environment, constructive housing development are properly enacted.” he said.

While commending AHCN for the emergence of Dr Victor Onukwugha, as the New President of the association, the Senator also charged the new executives to make concerted efforts towards providing more affordable houses for Nigerians as the Senate commite on Housing is ready to lend helping hands by means of favourable legislations and partnership.
