MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Monday night the Marquette City Commission Affordable-Housing Math: It’s Complicated formed an ad hoc committee to take an in-depth look into affordable housing in the city. The idea was first proposed during the commission regular meeting last month. Monday night, it was unanimously approved.
The committee is made up of seven people with varying backgrounds including property development, real estate, and the planning commission. Their job is to review current plans and programs for housing and prepare a report for the commission. Commissioner Evan Bonsall has also been appointed to help with the new committee.
“I’m serving on the committee as a City Commissioner but the real value is in all of the different people from the community who are serving on it, we have people who are housing developers, people who are landlords, renters and so I think that we’re going to have a really diverse set of perspectives at the table and that will make for some really interesting discussion and hopefully a more effective set of recommendations for the commission,” Bonsall said.
The committee was appointed to serve until June of 2021.
