The Lagos State government has warned landlords against giving out apartments to tenants who have not registered to collect their Lagos resident identity cards.
It said that even though the enforcement of the law had not started, it is an offence to lease apartment to residents that have not registered their identity with the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA).
General manager, LASRRA, Ibilola Kasumu, who disclosed this at a town hall meeting with residents of Lagos Central Senatorial District, also told property owners to ask their tenants to go and register for the Lagos identity card.
According to her, the principal goal of the state government is to serve residents adequately through better planning. She said with informed data, the state government would have enough information to plan, including knowing what and where to site facilities, as well as which should be upgraded.
She added that the new Lagos identity card is not just for identification but also a tool to simplify how residents access government services and financial tractions because the new card has a chip.
Kasumu revealed that the state government is ready to quickly register as many residents as possible, which is the reason it is open to collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs) for easy registration.
Meanwhile, the Project Manager, Mr. Akin Kehinde, has said that all those who registered between 2013 and 2017 should revalidate their registration as well as go for biometric capturing, while those who registered between 2018 and 2019 should just revalidate their registration so that their cards could be produced.
