The Lagos State Government has issued contravention notices to more than 280 property owners and occupiers within the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme in Eti Osa Local Government Area. The notices served on September 14, 2024, citing violations such as master plan distortion, slum development, and coastal erosion risks.
A statement from the Lagos State Government’s X (formerly Twitter) account on September 17, 2024, confirmed that this action is part of a broader initiative to address unregulated development threatening Lagos’ urban landscape. The affected individuals have been given seven days to provide documentation and approvals justifying their occupation. Failure to comply will lead to demolition notices.
The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing the creation of slums, maintaining the integrity of the Lagos State Master Plan, and protecting coastal areas. The government has intensified efforts to address environmental and urban challenges, with recent actions including sealing properties for encroachment on wetlands and illegal structures.
