…rates FG 8yrs performance abysmal

Lagos State recorded highest housing delivery in the last eight years, according to the Association of Housing Corporation of Nigeria, AHCN.
Lagos according to AHCN report completed 960 housing projects in the last one year.
Close to the centre of excellence in housing delivery in the last one year is Katsina with 185 units.
Edo has 94 units completed in the last one year, Niger 38 units, Benue 30 units and Oyo 20 units.
Lagos also maintained the lead on number of ongoing project, with 5,580.
The breakdown shows 1,968 being executed by the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, (LSDPC) and the ministry of Housing 3,612 within the period under review.
Bauchi state ranks second in the number of ongoing projects with 2,500. The projects is a collaboration between the state and Family Home Funds Limited.
Also, Bayelsa has 494 ongoing housing projects, Ogun 334 projects handled by OGHC and OPIC, Benue State 200, Adamawa 45 units by United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR and Oyo 13 units under the Public Private Partnership initiative.
Generally, the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, AHCN said is also building and has developed over 3,596 in the last 8 years.
The Association said there were no records of the activities of some of the states housing agencies in the last one year.
It also said housing agencies in Zamfara and Gombe have been redundant.
The AHCN report also revealed that there were no new housing projects in 21 states.
The Association however rated eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari as abysmal in the area of housing provision.
AHCN President, Dr. Victor Onukwugha gave the verdict in his State of the Nation’s Housing address on the occasion of 2023 World Habitat Day with the theme “Resilient Urban Economies. Cities as Drivers of Growth and Recovery”.
Onukwugha said the last administration had failed to fulfil its promise of providing one million housing annually.
He said, instead thw administration was only able to deliver only 8,938 in eight years.
He also said the state governments did not fair any better .
