The Lagos State Government has raised concerns about a looming building collapse at the Mopol 20 Barracks in Onigbongbo, Ikeja.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced plans to immediately evacuate residents and commence the demolition of the old Block 3 of the barracks.
In a statement released on Wednesday, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the agency’s response team had assessed parts of the building and found them in a dangerous state. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized that both the building and surrounding structures would be evacuated to prevent potential loss of life or damage to property.
“Our team’s findings indicate that immediate evacuation is necessary for the building and adjacent structures. We are implementing a response plan that includes a thorough assessment, safe evacuation, and a controlled demolition,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The demolition and evacuation are being conducted under the direction of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which is taking precautionary measures to avoid potential disasters.

The LASEMA boss also called for calm, urging the public to avoid spreading misinformation regarding the situation on social media.
This warning follows recent concerns over building safety in Lagos, where incidents of structural failure have raised alarms about older buildings and inadequate maintenance.
