An 18-year-old Oluwaseun, a male student of Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centre Technical School, Egan, lost his life in an elevator accident December 6 at a construction site in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The deceased was on his Industrial Training program at the site. Oluwaseun, originally from Kwara State, was working with construction workers until he went missing in the evening. His lifeless body was discovered the next day when engineers, responding to a malfunctioning lift shaft, forced the elevator open.
Dennis, a construction worker named Dennis, told The Punch,
“He (Oluwaseun) joined the company working on the site a few months ago. He resumed in the morning and closed almost the same time other workers closed. But the last time he was seen on Wednesday was around 5pm and by the time other engineers closed, they thought he had gone home. When they resumed the next day, they discovered that the lift shaft was not working any longer. They later forced it open around 3pm and saw the IT student lying lifeless inside.”
Dennis said the project engineer who was immediately alerted about the development, rushed to the spot.
“When the project manager saw the body, he left and reported at the police station. A team of policemen later came to the site and took pictures of the body. The officers also took it to the hospital where he was declared dead by the doctor on duty,” he said.

An anonymous police source in the vicinity, who was unauthorized to comment on the incident, said that visible physical injuries were observed on the corpse before its evacuation. “We found some physical injuries on the body which suggested that he could have fallen from the lift shaft. His family has been contacted,” the police said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, corroborated the story on Sunday, saying “The corpse has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of his death.”
