The Lagos State Government has given traders and squatters a 72-hour notice to vacate setbacks from POWA Gate to Dolphin Gate.
This directive is part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal structures and restore public order across Lagos Island.
Government’s Position on Illegal Structures
Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the eviction notice via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The directive follows similar enforcement actions targeting unauthorized trading and illegal structures across different parts of the state.
A video accompanying the announcement showed traders selling food items and wheelbarrow pushers navigating through congested spaces.
Previous Evictions and Environmental Cleanup
Earlier this year, authorities demolished stalls obstructing drainage systems in Savage, Elegbata, and Bombata on Lagos Island.
Illegal trading hubs, including makeshift structures under Apongbon Bridge, were also cleared to prevent flooding and improve sanitation.
The state also removed illegal buildings under high-tension power lines, citing electrocution, fire hazards, and environmental risks.
Crackdown on Encroachments in Lekki and Other Areas
In September 2024, Lagos issued contravention notices to 69 companies encroaching on waterfront setbacks in Lekki Phase 1.
Businesses such as Farm City, Jonah Court, DHL, and Polo Avenue were cited for violating urban planning regulations.
The government insists that these actions are essential to maintain order, protect the environment, and ensure public safety.
