Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has signed a total of 334 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) for building owners in the last quarter of 2024.
The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS) made this known during the quarterly inter-ministerial press briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications.
The chairman of KWGIS, ESV Andulkareem Sulyman, revealed that 178 Certificates of Occupancy were processed and signed in the final quarter, following a total of 156 certificates processed in the second quarter of the year.
This brings the total number of C of Os signed for 2024 to 334, a notable achievement attributed to the transition to an automated system under the leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq.
Sulyman commended the governor’s visionary leadership, which has been key to aligning development activities with the state’s master plan, promoting growth, and accelerating development. He highlighted that the automation process has not only streamlined land management but has also contributed to the state’s growing internally generated revenue.
Additionally, during the period under review, the KWGIS processed 878 Statutory Rights of Occupancy for Certificates of Occupancy production and 645 Survey Reports.
Twelve Land Registration Certificates were also issued to applicants who met the necessary procedures for land registration.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration has continued to make strides in land management reform, which has played a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and reducing bottlenecks within the system.
The ongoing land reclamation exercises and acquisition of large tracts of land for livestock and industrial purposes further reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
In his remarks, Sulyman also disclosed that the state has acquired 3,000 hectares of land in Malete, Moro Local Government Area, for livestock production, with 70% of compensation payments already completed. Another 2,000 hectares have been earmarked for an industrial park along the Ilorin/Ogbomosho road.
Furthermore, preliminary activities have been concluded for the Ilorin SmartCity project, covering 19,000 hectares of land. This ongoing reform, which includes harmonizing agencies involved in land-related matters, will minimize bureaucratic delays and address issues related to land grabbing.
The administration’s focus on digitalizing land operations ensures greater transparency and enhances the overall efficiency of land management in Kwara State.
