In a bid to improve the quality of land administration and property database for effective decision making, in line with World Bank requirement, Kogi state government has embarked on property enumeration and identification (PEI) exercise alongside property owner express (POE) programme.
The Director General, Kogi state Bureau for land and urban development, Hon. Nazir Yusuf Ochi, told Journalists in Lokoja that exercise is channeled towards realization of the Urban Renewal Programme.He said that the programme is fundamental to stimulating investment growth, infrastructural development as well as smooth and secured land tenure system in Kogi State. According to the Director General, the essence of this exercise is to furnish the State Government with ample information which will further aid decision making through digitization and proper storage of all data gathered from houses and number of occupants across the state.
In the same vein, the State Government has approved a new cost of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to existing houses across the State, ranging from N100, 000.00 in GRAs and organized layout N50, 000.00 , semi-formal and informal settlements N35,000.00, in an effort to increase individual capital investment profile. Both programs will run for a period of three (3) months starting from May 3rd to August 3rd 2021.
Speaking further on the importance of the programme, the Director-General disclosed that the present administration led by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is focused on people oriented programme to ensure sustainable, good and reliable service delivery of his mandate to the people. Hon. Ochi explained that the exercise will go a long way in providing information for public sector planning, investment and decision making as well as evaluation of policies, revenue accrual from Land Use and other government benefits. He therefore urged the people to support and cooperate with the fieldworkers for the collection of data in Lokoja Metropolis and also charged property owners to take advantage of this period to legalize their property titles for future uses.
