Chief Bode George, leader of Omo Eko Pataki and former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), Trustee Omo Eko Pataki and Gbadebo Dallass on behalf of Omo Eko Pataki have described late Alhaji Lateef Jakande as unarguably the greatest builder of modern day Lagos.
The group said that Jakande whose tenure as the first civilian governor of Lagos state from 1979 -1983 would remain imperishable in the giantism of his superlative attainments
in a condolence message on Thursday the group said that the passage of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande was shocking, heart-breaking and sorrowful. It pointed out that Lagos people would feel orphaned, solitary and sad as they mourn the passage of a great man who devoted his life to the growth and the development of the State.
The message reads, “Jakande was a selfless, dedicated , devoted Lagosian and a Nigerian patriot whose life was anchored on principled morality, stripped of rancor or bitterness. Everywhere you look, his legacies are perceived in the multiple housing estates, in the building of schools, making education affordable to all.”
The group said that the late governor built health centers, built the first State owned University and Polytechnics and created opportunities for the indigenes to pursuit higher learning.
Adding, “LKJ as he was fondly called, led a life of simplicity, a life of contentment voided of greedy ostentatious brazenness that is now the norm. He now belongs to the Lagosian Pantheon of heroes, the very few Ọmọ Eko Pataki who would never trade their heritage for a mess of porridge. He lived well.
He will never be forgotten where duty, honor truth and service to humanity are treasured.”
