The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, has called for increased female participation in politics and construction, emphasizing that Nigerian women are rising and excelling in various fields.
She made this remark during a recent appearance on Inside the Real Estate on Housing TV Africa while commemorating Nigerian women on the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day.

Prof. Ogunsola highlighted the importance of women taking on leadership roles in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

The theme for the 2025 International Women’s Day, Accelerate Action, is focused on making faster and more effective strides toward gender equality and leadership.
Prof. Ogunsola noted that women lead differently, explaining that as homemakers, they are more inclined toward consensus-building.
“Women are more given to bringing a pragmatic, holistic, and fundamental approach to leadership,” she said.
Discussing areas where women need more representation, she stressed the importance of political and construction fields.
“Politics, the way it is structured, makes it difficult for women to thrive, but we have made a good footing, and it will only be a matter of time,” she stated.
She urged women to believe in their ability to excel and to actively pursue success.
