It is quite unfortunate for us as indigenous people of Maitama, Kukwaba and Katampe to face the damage of our properties by the FCDA demolishing squad led by Mr Attah Ikharo.
As indigenous people resettled in 1989/1990 in Kubwa, where we started life afresh we were given N1,000 as part payment of our compensation which is never completed till today.
When kerosene explosion happened near Kubwa village market, our structures were marked for demolition on November 8, 2021
We immediately petitioned the Hon Minister of FCT, FCDA and its Kubwa zonal office. However, our buildings were demolished by a squad from the FCDA led by Mr Ikaharo on November 10, 2021.
Two days later we were told our buildings were shanties. But our building cannot be shanties since FCDA development control drew the plan and monitored their construction.
Mr Attah has engaged us on another occasion setting up a committee to direct us on the type of building they want us to build that he wasn’t aware that the properties were owned by the indigenous people.
What we are asking is: Does Mr Ikharo has right to demolish our resettled town? Is it the minister that actually ordered Mr Ikharo to damage our buildings?
Why would the minister ask the demolishing squad to go after people who are yet to be fully compensated?
I want to humbly request the minister to investigate the issue.
