These webinars that will take place in May are only a continuation of a series of webinars already started by HDAN. In April 2020, the Network held a very impactful webinar on “The Crisis in Perspective: Affordable Housing Post COVID-19,” which drew a lot of participants and was widely reported in the media.
That particular webinar witnessed insightful contributions from stakeholders and players in the housing sector, with over 350 participants joining from across the globe.
In his opening remarks, the HDAN President, Festus Adebayo, mentioned that it is important to hold the webinar because the housing sector is experiencing drastic changes during and after the coronavirus pandemic, and it has become imperative to critically examine and predict possible trends and suggest practicable recommendations.
That webinar had notable speakers like the Former Managing Director of the Nigerian Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), Professor Charles Iyangete, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Family Homes Funds Limited, Femi Adewole, Founder of Eximia Realty, Hakeem Ogunniran, President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, Professor of Housing at the University of Lagos, Timothy Nubi, Former Chief Executive Officer, Ogun State Housing Corporation, Jumoke Akinwunmi, immediate past President of REDAN, Surv. Ugochukwu Chime, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Shelter Afrique, Mr. Andrew Chimphonda.
It was at this webinar that Chimphonda revealed that Nigeria and African countries need at least $3 trillion to resolve the continent’s housing deficit which is currently believed to be at 53 million.
Members of the general public are encouraged to register for free to participate in these webinars which will continue to hold every month according to Adebayo. Housing sector stakeholders and the general public, especially those who are seeking knowledge about how the housing sector will be after covid-19 with regards to home ownership opportunities, real estate investments and other development will very much benefit from these webinars.
According to Adebayo, these webinars will be monitored and covered by media organizations in the country including television and radio, as well as newspapers. This will be in addition to the ongoing partnership between HDAN and other media organizations like AIT and TVC.
These webinars will also be live on HDAN social media on platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
In a related development, HDAN has commended the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for giving thoughts to the idea of offering existing loan beneficiaries between 180 and 360 days of moratorium due to the ravages of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.
This, according to Adebayo is an exciting response from FMBN to whom the Network has always appealed to grant measures like this to help its subscribers grapple with the impact of Covid-19.
Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) is the leading platform in housing sector advocacy. The group is made up of notable stakeholders in the sector including public and private sector CEOs, mortgage bankers and executives, investors, brokers, housing associations and corporations etc. The group is currently engaging with critical stakeholders including the National Assembly to pass some outlined and important laws that will enable affordable housing in Nigeria.
