The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), a pioneer and leading housing development advocacy organization, has strongly condemned the actions of fraudulent developers preying on Nigerians in the diaspora.
These unscrupulous individuals have been selling non-existent land and housing, leading to numerous complaints from Nigerians living abroad, including in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Executive Director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo who said the group has received a significant number of these complaints and is determined to address the issue.
In response, HDAN has announced plans to collaborate with relevant government agencies in Nigeria and abroad to identify and take action against these fraudulent developers.
“We have been receiving a plethora of complaints from Nigerians in the diaspora who have lost their hard-earned money to fake developers in Nigeria,” Adebayo stated. “We are committed to working with governmental bodies and international agencies to ensure these fraudulent activities are stopped, and those responsible are brought to justice,” he added.
HDAN has been at the forefront of housing development advocacy for many years, contributing to the sector through various television programs and recently launching Africa’s first housing television channel. Adebayo said the platform aims to promote housing development and provide a voice for victims of real estate scams.
HDAN encourages all victims to reach out via email at info@housingreporters.com and other available contacts to share their experiences and help identify the fraudulent developers.
“It is imperative that these fraudulent activities are stopped. If the government cannot take action, it is up to NGOs and advocacy groups like ours to step in and combat these crimes,” Adebayo emphasized.
“We are establishing a platform where victims can lodge their complaints, and we will make every effort to contact the involved developers. If cooperation is not forthcoming, we will work with financial crime organizations in Nigeria to ensure these criminals face the consequences of their actions, we will recover your money Adebayo added.”
HDAN emphasized its commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria’s housing sector, highlighting its potential to create employment, engage youth, and boost the economy if properly managed, similar to advanced countries.
“Our mission at HDAN is to see the Nigerian housing sector thrive. We have spent the last 25 years dedicated to this cause, and we cannot allow these fraudulent activities to tarnish our efforts,” the Executive Director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo concluded.
HDAN calls on all stakeholders, including the government, NGOs, and the public, to join forces in eradicating these fraudulent practices and restoring trust in the Nigerian housing sector. He also commended Redan President Adeoye Akintoye for championing the need to regulate the real estate practice in Nigeria.
