The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed a notable increase in the average retail price per litre of Household Kerosene (HHK) in Nigeria, reaching N1,439.64 in April 2024.
This marks a significant 6.29% month-on-month rise from the N1,354.40 recorded in March 2024.
According to the NBS’s National Household Kerosene Price Watch for April 2024, the year-on-year comparison indicates a substantial increase of 24.04% from N1,160.67 in April 2023.
State-wise analysis showcased varying price trends, with Benue topping the list with an average price per litre of N1,788.47, followed closely by Kaduna and Plateau at N1,761.62 and N1,717.78, respectively. Conversely, Katsina recorded the lowest price at N1,222.22 per litre, trailed by Jigawa and Kwara.
In terms of regional distribution, the North Central region registered the highest average retail price per litre of Household Kerosene at N1,525.27, with the South-West following closely at N1,479.24. The South-East recorded the lowest average price at N1,391.68 per litre.

The report also highlighted the average retail price per gallon of Household Kerosene, standing at N5,174.23 in April 2024, reflecting a 5.61% increase from N4,899.33 in March 2024. On a year-on-year basis, this represents a surge of 24.17% from N4,166.94 in April 2023.
Kano led the states in terms of the highest average retail price per gallon of Household Kerosene, recording N6,862.50, trailed by Adamawa and Yobe. Conversely, Kwara recorded the lowest price per gallon at N4,226.40, followed by Delta and Akwa Ibom.
