Ahead of the forthcoming general elections slated for February 25, 2023, a leading Housing Development Advocacy Network, HDAN has urged stakeholders and practitioners in the Housing sector to vote for leaders that will urgently address the severe housing deficit in Nigeria.
This is as the network charged practitioners in Nigeria’s Housing and Construction industry to go out enmasse and vote for candidates that will create job opportunities for the teeming youths through Housing developments.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, the HDAN Director, Festus Adebayo lamented how 9th National Assembly neglected the housing sector without promulgating any law that will create enabling enviroment for the sector
The statement reads in part “We cannot continue like this, we now have an opportunity to choose the right leaders that we think can give us the Housing sector of our dream. We cannot do this by staying aloof from voting. We can’t do this by traveling abroad when it’s time for the election. We can only do this by participating fully in the election.”
He added that “We hereby call on all stakeholders to vote wisely for leaders at various levels from Local Governments to State level and at the Federal Level for those who we think can drive our housing forward.”
He stressed the need to vote for leaders that will develop the mortgage sectors.
According to him, the country needs leaders that will make land and housing affordable and accessible adding that the citizens should vote for lawmakers who will enact enabling laws that will promote Housing development and investment in Real Estate.
“There is a need to vote for Legislators who will support bills that will create an enabling environment for Nigeria. We call on Nigerians not to vote for tribe, religion, or sentiments this time around”
” We have suffered enough in the last few days, many of our construction workers have abandoned the sites due to cash scarcity while others have abandoned their sites due to the increase in the prices of building materials.”
Adebayo who lamented the continued occurrences of building collapse implores Nigerians to vote for a leader that will have the political will to address all the aforementioned challenges.
