…offers to support in the area of investigation on the cause, joining in prosecuting those culpable.
The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (COBON) has commiserated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Musa Bello, over the loss of lives from the building collapse which occured at Gwarinpa last week.
This is contained in a letter to the minister and signed by the council’s Registrar & Secretary to Council, Bldr. Adetunji Adeniran, mni a copy of which was made available to the Africa Housing News in Abuja.
The Council commended the action so far taken towards ensuring such occurrences do not reoccur, adding that the Project Evaluation and Monitoring Unit (PEMU) of the Council had visited the site and that preliminary findings revealed no record of involvement of a builder, who is the professional licensed to manage the production process of buildings in Nigeria.
According to the letter, there was no record that requisite building production documents such as construction methodology, programme of works, health and safety plan and quality management plan were used in the construction of the collapse project.
“The absence of a registered builder and consequent poor management of the production process, in line with the approved Builder’s production tools, no doubt remains a bane of collapsed building, especially during construction,” the letter stated.
“Council supports fully your firm action towards the arrest and prosecution of staff and professionals on the project. We hereby offer to make resources and personnel available to partner with the relevant agencies of the FCT in the investigation process as well as a key stakeholder in the prosecution process,” the council concluded.
