Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dissolved the state executive council, including his commissioners, and terminated the appointment of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubandoma.
The announcement was made during a special emergency executive meeting held at the Government House in Lafia on Friday, shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima concluded a one-day working visit to the state, where he inaugurated various projects.
While the reasons for the dissolution remain unclear, sources suggest that Governor Sule is known for restructuring his administration to enhance governance. In 2021, a similar dissolution of the executive council occurred, with the governor citing the need for a more effective and efficient government structure.
A statement signed by Mohammed Iliyasu-Idde, the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, confirmed the development and highlighted the governor’s gratitude to the outgoing council members for their service to the state.
“All the outgoing council members are to hand over the affairs of their ministries and government property in their possession to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries, while the SSG is to hand over to the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and Special Services,” the statement read.
Governor Sule also expressed best wishes to the outgoing officials in their future endeavors, acknowledging their contributions to the growth of the state.
In July 2023, the governor had submitted the names of 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council. The next steps in reconstituting the council are anticipated as citizens await further details on the implications of this decision and the direction of the state’s administration.
