Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasized the importance of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in shaping the future of the real estate sector during a recent two-day real estate summit organized by Thinkmint Nigeria at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Sanwo-Olu commended the 2024 Real Estate Developers Association (REDA) for the summit’s theme, “Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era,” underscoring its relevance amid the industry’s evolving landscape.
He stated, “Real estate is not just about building structures; it’s about creating communities, driving economic growth, and fostering social development.” The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Lagos a leader in real estate development through comprehensive policies and infrastructure investments.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the state’s initiatives to streamline land title registrations and secure property ownership, noting that the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy has boosted investor confidence and reduced property disputes. These efforts make Lagos a more attractive destination for real estate investments.
The Governor also pointed out the significance of infrastructure projects, such as road expansions and transportation network developments, in unlocking the potential of key areas in Lagos. He further emphasized the administration’s focus on sustainability, particularly in coastal regions like Eko Atlantic City, where green building practices and flood defenses are crucial for addressing environmental challenges and climate risks.

In her welcome address, Imeida Olaoye, Managing Partner of Thinkmint Nigeria, praised industry stakeholders for embracing the summit’s theme. She urged professionals to think creatively and collaborate to devise solutions to current challenges, emphasizing the need for discussions around technology shifts, policy reforms, and market demands for the sector’s future success.
Ayodeji Joseph, Managing Director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), stressed the importance of reshaping real estate strategies to adapt to a rapidly changing world. He noted that the summit theme reflects the industry’s necessity to rethink traditional approaches to remain relevant.
Joseph reaffirmed LSDPC’s commitment to developing solutions that meet immediate housing needs while fostering long-term economic and infrastructural growth. He encouraged attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and explore innovative ideas to address the evolving demands of the real estate landscape, expressing optimism about the industry’s future.
