Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has pledged to provide land for the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to build an affordable housing scheme in Niger State.
The governor made this commitment during a meeting with FHA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Oyetunde Ojo at the Government House in Minna.
Governor Bago expressed the importance of partnering with the FHA within the framework of the New Niger Agenda. He assured the FHA of his administration’s readiness to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the partnership.
“Just give us your design; anywhere you want, we will give it (land) for free. The Ministry of Land, Housing, Local Government, Power, and other ministries have been asked to work closely with you,” Governor Bago told Ojo.
He revealed that the state plans to build several housing estates in the next three years to relocate communities affected by hydro dams. Additionally, the state intends to develop farm estates and housing for workers at the Special Agro-Processing Free Zone.

Governor Bago commended the leadership of FHA under Ojo, stating that the agency is poised to bring about positive change in the nation.
In response, Ojo explained that the purpose of the agency’s visit was to familiarize itself with the state government and seek a partnership to realize the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in the area of affordable housing schemes.
He requested the state’s assistance in providing land for the housing project and assured that the government would be involved in all processes to ensure the project’s success.

The housing project will cater to low, middle, and upper-class residents, with beneficiaries paying for the houses in installments over five to ten years. The FHA will construct and finish only the exterior, allowing beneficiaries to customize the interior according to their preferences.
Ojo also mentioned the FHA’s plan to use local contractors to stimulate the state’s economy and its intention to establish a Diaspora City while ensuring tight security for its projects.
