The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) says it will partner with Brains and Hammers, Cosgrove, Urban shelter, and some other real estate developers in the country to provide affordable housing to Nigerians in the diaspora.
The FMBN Managing Director, Ahmed Dangiwa, said this during a virtual One-on-One interactive session with the CEOs, a Housing Development Advocacy programme, anchored by Festus Adebayo, the Executive Director, Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN).
The Diaspora National Housing Fund (NHF) Mortgage Loan is a mortgage facility targeted at Nigerians living abroad. The facility affords Nigerians in the Diaspora an opportunity to register with the NHF Scheme, while engaging in monthly contributions and in due course, access mortgage loans to own houses back home.
According to Dangiwa, the collaboration cuts across cities in major parts of the country involving Abuja, Port-harcourt, Lagos, Benin, among others.
He added that the inclusion of the ‘Nigerians in the Diaspora’ in the NHF Scheme became sacrosanct, considering the high toll of Nigerians living abroad, who desire to own a home in the country.
“We are already identifying and collaborating with the estate developers”, he said.
Speaking further, Dangiwa described the collaborating developers as top-notch in the real estate sector, as he expressed confidence in their service delivery and contributions to the realization of the NHF goals.
“Those reputable ones are building very nice affordable houses and that’s why we are collaborating with them to bring it to the diasporas, even as they promised to do that. With that collaboration, we can purchase that house for you outrightly and then we create mortgage in-between us”, he said.
He noted that through the credit bureau, the FMBN would be able to deduct its money through a designated primary mortgage bank until such reimbursement is completed.
He said that the mortgage institution has done the paperwork and a brochure detailing all the procedures involved in accessing the loan.
Dangiwa assured that the procedures would be uploaded on the FMBN website ‘www.fmbn.gov.ng’ to afford the general public more details about the NHF Diaspora Mortgage Scheme.
