The Federal Government has announced plans to regularise electricity tariffs, aiming to correct billing disparities and encourage power sector investments.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this initiative at the public presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy in Abuja.
Currently, Band B customers receive 17 to 18 hours of electricity daily and pay N63 per kilowatt-hour under the present structure.

In contrast, Band A consumers, receiving only two additional hours of supply, are charged N209 per kilowatt-hour by electricity providers.
Adelabu described the current billing structure as unfair and emphasized the necessity of creating a more balanced pricing framework.
“We will review the tariff system, not necessarily increasing charges, but ensuring fairness while attracting investments into infrastructure improvements,” he stated.
The minister noted that the significant gap between Band A tariffs and lower bands’ charges is unfair and requires adjustment.
