The Federal Government plans to redesign Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway sections in Ondo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.
This redesign aims to minimize bridge construction costs, ensuring the project remains financially viable with optimal investment returns.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this plan during the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway stakeholder engagement held in Lagos on Sunday.
Umahi explained the government adopted an upland route to avoid constructing multiple bridges spanning up to three kilometres each.
He stated that the redesign could eliminate about 90% of bridges initially planned, cutting construction costs significantly.

Project Updates and Key Details
Providing further insights, Umahi confirmed that President Tinubu approved Section 3’s alignment through Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
Section 3 divides into two parts: Section 3A in Cross River and Section 3B in Akwa Ibom State.
These sections cover a combined 65 kilometres, each featuring two-lane carriageways for efficient transportation across both states.
Contracts for these highway sections have been awarded, with flag-off ceremonies planned within the next two weeks.
