The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in partnership with property developers has commenced the landscaping and beautification of Umaru Musa Yar’adua Express Way, Abuja.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, who inaugurated the exercise on Tuesday in Abuja, said it was in line with the FCT 2019 Parks Policy.
Aliyu explained that the policy mandates the administration to grant permit to corporate organisations, multinationals and diplomatic communities for the purpose of exercising their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the enhancement of greening of the city.
The minister said the administration had solicited for the cooperation of some few organisations located along the Umaru Musa Yar’adua express way to complement efforts of the administration.
“In the improvement of the aesthetics of the diplomatic road by landscaping, beautification and maintenance of the frontage of their property to complement the major gateway leading to the city centre,” she said
Aliyu affirmed that the partnership with private entities was a clear demonstration that government could not do everything on its own.
She assured that the FCT administration would continue to work with the private sector and development partners to ensure that continuous progress was made in the beautification of the nation’s capital.
She said that the administration was guided by core values of patriotism and dedication to duty; integrity, and respect for due process and rule of law.
The minister said that nobody would be surcharged in this partnership.
Earlier, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola, commended the property owners for partnering to implement the laudable initiative as a way of giving back to the society.
He urged other corporate organisations to come together and emulate actions of the property owners along Abuja airport road to add value to aesthetics of the city.
“It is indeed gratifying to note that corporate organisations and even residents of the FCT share the vision of FCT administration in building an Abuja of our collective dream, which we will be proud to call home,” she added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that highpoint of the event was the planting of trees by the FCT Minister of State, Permanent Secretary, Director of Human Resource, Malam Bashir Mohammed, Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Umar Shuaibu.
Others are the Development Partners and property owners along the airport road, amongst others.
