The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has authorized N1.4 billion in funding for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to purchase more equipment in order to increase power supply across the country.
Mr Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, revealed this when he informed State House Correspondents on the outcome of the council meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja.
“I brought two memos for the Transmission Company of Nigeria from the Ministry of Power,” he stated.
“The first was a change in the value of a contract for a 132/33 KV substation in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, combined with a KV line base expansion at Jos substation in Plateau State.” This amounts to N132, 705, 861.42 in total.”
The second permission, according to the minister, was for the delivery of handling equipment and operational vehicles to the Nigerian Transmission Company at a cost of N1.3 billion.
“The second memo requested N1,338,159,080.88 for the procurement of handling equipment, haulage, and operational vehicles for the TCN.
“They’re large lifting machines that the TCN needs to accomplish its job in the store and on the field, changing equipment and relocating transformers.”
He responded, “The council gratefully approved.”
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, said that the council has approved costs for seed production in the country.
According to him, the council allowed N400,000 for a private seed company and N100,000 for research institutions each variety.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, also revealed that the council authorized a N317.7 million augmentation for Pategi Water Supply Project Phase 11 in Kwara.
He said the project was first given by the Buhari administration in 2018 for N3.2 billion with a 74-month completion period.
