All the five-star hotels in Kano State have been booked and over 100 private jets are at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport by politicians and other affluent people attending the wedding of Yusuf Buhari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son.
The wedding between Yusuf and Zahra, daughter of Emir of Bichi, in Kano, has been tagged the merger of presidency and royalty by social observers. The marriage of the new couple has been the talk of the town on social media for months.
“Kano is currently choked up. There is traffic congestion everywhere for Buhari’s son’s wedding,” a resident told FIJ.
A Kano-based journalist covering the royal wedding also told FIJ that there had been a scarcity of flights to and from Kano since Wednesday because of the wedding ceremony.
“There are over 100 private jets at the Kano airport as I speak. You can hardly find a flight to Kano from anywhere since Wednesday,” he said. “All the five-star hotels in this state have been booked.”
According to a statement by Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Buhari had sent a high-level delegation led by Professor Ibrahim Gambari, his Chief of Staff, to make preparations for the wedding.
The presidential aide revealed that the delegation includes several ministers, including retired Major-General Bashir Magashi, Defence; Alhaji Sabo Nanono, Agriculture; Sen. Hadi Sirika, Aviation; Suleiman Hussein, Water Resources; and Garba Shehu.
Dignitaries at the event include Atiku Abubakar, Buhari’s major opponent in the 2019 presidential election; Femi Fani Kayode, Buhari’s fierce critic; and Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun state.
