It’s a wrap as entry closes for the final stage of the 2021 AIHS Youth Competition on Affordable Housing Designs and Ideas and eight youths compete for a grand prize of over five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) plus other consolation prizes.
The Abuja International Housing Show Youth Competition 2021 has received entries from the final 8 contestants out of the thirty-six youths who entered the second stage of the evaluation process. Recall that about a month ago thirty-six had qualified for the second stage of the competition out of the over fifty candidates that registered.
The Chairman of the Youth Competition Committee, Arc. Sam Odia, in an interaction with Africa Housing News, noted that the Affordable Housing Designs and Ideas Competition will focus on catching them young to grow youths in the country to serve as advocates of affordable and accessible housing while delivering low-cost homes to Nigeria’s teeming population.
On his part, the Convener of the Abuja International Housing Show, Festus Adebayo who is an affordable housing advocate added that accepting entries from youths with no more than 10 years post-graduation experience/undergraduate students, will provide the opportunity to empower the younger generation with real-world practice in affordable housing development across Nigeria and the world at large.
No wonder, the competition which draws technical partnership from well-meaning professional bodies in the housing industry, enjoys sponsorship from the Federal Mortgage Bank Of Nigeria, Family Homes Funds Ltd, Brains and Hammers ltd, Modern Shelter Ltd, Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Millard Fuller Foundation, Black.Orchard among others.
Recall that the committee for the competition was inaugurated during the 15th Abuja International Housing Show in July with Arc Sam Odia, a leading affordable housing developer in Nigeria as the Chairman and many eminent professionals in the construction industry as members.
The Jury also consists of highly placed professionals in the industry ranging from Architects, Town Planners, Builders to Quantity Surveyors, Engineers among others.
Winners of the competition will be announced on Housing Development Programme on AIT and TVC while the presentation of awards and prizes will take place on the 10th of December, 2021 at the Africa Housing Awards billed to hold at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
