In a bid to boost financial inclusion, promote housing provision, as well as encourage real estate investment in Nigeria, the Africa’s largest housing event, Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) is set to hold a session at the 16th edition of its annual event to discuss issues around provision of non-interest finance for real estate in the country.
In a statement released by the convener of the event, Mr. Festus Adebayo in Abuja on Monday, he said the need for AIHS to promote the idea of non-interest finance in the real estate sector can not be overemphasized, considering the increasing housing deficit and low financial base as imposed by the nation’s soaring inflation.
According to Adebayo, the session is facilitated to address financial inclusion, most especially for developers and real estate investors in order to have access to useful and affordable financial products and services that meet their investment needs, transactions, and payments, in a responsible and sustainable way.
He said: “this approach has been adopted by various developed countries across the globe. Due to the critical importance of finance to housing, there is a need to explore other alternatives for funding real estate, homeownership both on the demand and supply sides.”
Expected to partake in the open discourse are leading financial institutions that are known for non-interest finance to include Lotus Bank, Taj Bank, Jaiz Bank, among other private financial institutions involved in non-interest finance.
As the 16th edition of the event coming up on July 25th to 28th 2022 draws near, not less than 34 international speakers drawn from different parts of the world have been invited and over 15 countries and 20,000 participants are expected to attend the annual global event. Also, over 350 exhibitors have registered with an expectation that more exhibitors will subscribe to the event.
Different activities have been mapped out for the event to include a political leaders’ dialogue, a session on climate change with special focus on green housing, exhibitions, proptech session and finance discussions, Deal-room meetings, among others.
The event is sponsored by leading brands in the housing and construction industry including Dangote, Lafarge Africa Plc, Cosgrove, Brains and Hammers, Stanbic IBTC, and a host of other notable brands.
