The Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria(AHCN), is set to organize a two-day National workshop on Financing Affordable Housing from 29th to 30th June, 2021 at Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, aimed at changing and repositioning housing as an agent of economic recovery in the emerging economy.
In a Press Release signed by the Association’s Executive Secretary, Toye Eniola, said the workshop seeks to expose inherent and hidden opportunities in financing affordable housing and stimulate appropriate strategies for development of mass housing provision.
The theme of the workshop “Unlocking Hidden Opportunities for Financing Affordable Housing,” will address among others, the activation of dead assets as tools for funding affordable housing, the prospects of Reits as solutions to affordable housing, exploring partnership synergy in resolving housing deficit, unlocking finance barricades and limitations to affordable mass housing as well addressing challenges of off takers guarantee in funding affordable housing.
According to the Press Release, “The Association which was established in 1964 was in the forefront of mass housing in Nigeria with development of various housing estates in major state capitals across the federation until recently when most housing corporations were saddled with various constraints that rendered them inactive.”
Speaking at the event are the Managing Directors of Family Homes Fund and Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Adewole; Arc Ahmed Dangiwa, the Managing Director of Eximia Realty Ltd; Mr Hakeem Ogunniran, the Managing Director of Workers Affordable Properties Ltd , Rwanda; Engr Harmony Kunu, the Managing Director of CentreBase Consult; Mr. Sesan Obe, the CEO of Oct 5 Holding Ltd; Mr Jide Odusolu and the Managing Director of TrustBanc Arthur, Mr Basheer Oshodi, among others.
Major stakeholders and decision makers in the housing sector are expected to participate in the strategic workshop.According to the release, the workshop would also provide avenue for major players in the sector to rub minds and proffer appropriate modalities for funding, development and execution of affordable housing.
“The objective of the founders of the Association was to solve the then growing housing problems especially in the urban centres by advising governments of the federation on their housing policies, projects and programmes,” the statement reads in part.
The 105th Council meeting of the Association which is combined with the event will take place on Thursday 1st of July at the same venue.
