The Governor of Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni has recorded a landmark achievement as he bagged Housing Friendly Governor of the Year Award at the Africa Housing Awards 2022 which held on the 15th of December at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor who has been described as a provider of affordable housing was His excellency, the Deputy Governor of the State, Idi Barde Gubana supported by the Speaker of Yobe State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, 3 Commissioners, Permanent Secretary of the state’s housing ministry and Managing Director of Yobe State Housing Corporation among others.
The Deputy Governor who delivered an acceptance speech on behalf of all the awardees appreciated the promoter of the most acclaimed Africa Housing Awards, Festus Adebayo for his consistent drive in advocating affordable housing for all.
He reiterated the commitment of the state government in ensuring an effective implementation of a mass housing policy across the 17 local government area of the state noting that part of it informed the construction of over 2,000 Housing units being the single largest housing intervention in the history of the state and the subsidy of 50 percent given to all beneficiaries recently.
The Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Gubana also said just as Governor Buni delivered under APC, he is confident that the Presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu will deliver on housing for the people of Nigeria when elected in 2023.
The highlight of this year’s Africa Housing Awards was the Posthumous induction of the Late Abdul Abubakar, the founder of Imani sons into the Affordable Housing Hall of Fame 2022 and the presentation of Life Achievement Award to Architect Sonny Echono, Former President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and Architect Musa Sada, Former Minister of Mines & Steel Development who have been described as Icons of housing and construction development in Nigeria.
The occasion had in attendance eminent personalities, movers and shakers of the industry including Commissioners from Edo, Niger, Plateau and Yobe States, Members of House of Reps, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Burundi, Mr Madu Hamman, Managing Director of FMBN, Mr Yakubu Sanni, Acting CEO of Family Homes Funds Ltd, Tpl Nathaniel Atebije President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Arc. (Chief) Gabriel Aduku, Chairman Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, Arc. Musa Sada, Former Minister of Mines and Steel, Representative of the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Representative of Labour Party Presidential Candidate, GMD of Odua Group of Companies, among others.
