The newly constructed Agege/Pen Cinema Bridge in the Agege area of Lagos State would be commissioned on Saturday, February 20, 2021, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has confirmed.
Speaking on Tuesday at the 2021 Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, the Governor expressed optimism that the facility would ease the traffic in the area.
Mr Sanwo-Olu commended residents of Agege and its environs for their patience while the construction of the project lasted, saying he’s confident that the bridge would improve economic activities of the area.
He said his administration will continue to fund projects that would boost the economy of Lagos State, noting that the Ehingbeti Summit is one of the avenues to discuss ways to move the state forward.
According to him, the construction of the Agege/Pen Cinema Bridge is one of the numerous results of the past Ehingbeti summits and a reflection of the public-private partnership of the state government.
He said the event was earlier scheduled for November 2020 but was postponed because of the October 2020 #EndSARS protests, which led to the destruction of several public and private properties in the metropolis.
“This also happens to be the first edition of the summit happening against the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Here is a pandemic that has disrupted life in every country in the world, and ushered in truly unprecedented times, where physical contact with family and friends could be a source of debilitating illness, and where our places of worship and community interactions have been upended,” Mr Sanwo-Olu disclosed.
Business Post reports that the construction of the Agege/Pen Cinema Bridge was initiative and started by Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the immediate past Governor of Lagos State.
The bridge has an overpass that rises from Oba Ogunji Road and drops at the Oke Koto section of Agege. It is also expected to link directly to the old Lagos/Abeokuta highway and pass through Abule Egba to the new Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.
