Vice President of Collaboration and Linkages Board, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr Chinasaokwu Okolie alongside Engr Tanko Gyang, a council member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and Emmanuel Udoro, a Royal Ceramics representative, have called on corporate bodies across the country to support technical education advocacy and youth development.
They gave the charge at the ongoing Skills Competition, Exhibition, and Job Fair organized by iCreate Africa in Abuja.
They advised corporate organizations in the country to channel their Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts towards the development of youth through skills acquisition and empowerment.
“I believe more in training people than giving ten-ten thousands to youths. If we can save those monies and invest them in youth development through trainings and skills acquisition, they will be able to stand on their own. Once you do that, such youth will later become an employer of labour, proffering solutions to people’s problem and from there, getting values”, Gyang revealed.
While advocating for the creation of standard tertiary technical institutions across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, the trio also sued for review of the nation’s educational framework, thereby erasing the disparities between Bachelor’s Degree holders and other tertiary education certifications, to enhance youths’ interest in skills acquisition and development.
They urged the Federal Ministry of Education to access the value proposition of various units of tertiary education in the country to know the one that produces the required skill set, capable of driving both the private and public sectors.
According to Udoro who is of the opinion that creativity isn’t limited to arts and entertainment, youths should be more creative in science and technology rather than prioritizing entertainment.
