… the Federal Government will Create Enabling Environment for Private Sector to boost Affordable Housing – Osinbajo
Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government is committed to providing the needed enabling environment for the private sector in order to boost sustainable housing development in the country.
He disclosed this while commissioning the 248-unit GrandLuvu 3B Affordable Housing Estate and dedicating Millard Fuller Foundation’s 1,000th house in Nasarawa state.
Expressing delight over the efforts of Fuller Housing at the 248-Unit Grand Luvu 3B Affordable Housing Project, Osinbajo said what is needed is to double the capacities of the partners and address the problem of affordable housing which, according to him, includes creating the enabling environment.
Reiterating the commitment of the government to support efforts at developing a sustainable National Housing Programme, the Vice President said the Federal Government is determined to make use of locally manufactured building materials, collaborate with the Private Sector, and enhance local industrial capacity in the social housing programme under the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), which is an intervention programme to deal with the fallout of the Covid pandemic.
While also hammering on the role of the Private Sector, he said the federal government has reached an agreement with the three major cement producers in the country to supply cement at discounted prices adding that this is in a bid to ensure the success of the Social Housing scheme where the Buhari administration plans to construct 300,000 houses.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Solomon Yaro, and CEO, of the Millard Fuller Foundation, Sam Odia expressed joy in having the Vice President commission their very important affordable housing projects while calling on the government to help in the provision of access roads along the GrandLuvu estate.
Reacting to the call for the construction of roads, Governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullahi Sule expressed the state government’s commitment to housing development and pledged to ensure the construction of the 5 kilometers access road to the estate to provide the necessary infrastructure that will enable the private sector to thrive.
Meanwhile, Arc. Sam Odia in an interview with Africa housing news emphasized that collaboration between the government and private sector developers is key, calling on the federal government to increase its efforts in creating the enabling environment. He also expressed concerns over some of the challenges faced which include inadequate power supply, poor infrastructure among others.
Speaking on how the Millard Fuller Foundation affordable housing development will impact Nigerians, Executive Director of Projects, Funmi Odia stated that the overall goal is to ensure that low-income earners have access to owning their own homes. She highlights that families are also benefitting from the many houses that have been constructed so far especially with the availability of recreational centers and more in the estate community.
Highpoint of the event was the commissioning and unveiling of the 248-unit GrandLuvu 3B Affordable Housing Estate and the dedication of the Millard Fuller Foundation’s 1,000th house by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
As you know, the taste of the pudding really is in the eating and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has seen for himself what the Millard Fuller Foundation, an indigenous estates development company is doing on affordable housing development for low and middle-income class, at Masaka, a border town between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.
