A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration and Qatar Charity, a Qatari based International Humanitarian Organization to alleviate the accommodation challenges of widows in Nigeria’s capital.
This agreement was signed to commemorate the courtesy visit to the FCT Minister, Malam Bello by Qatar’s Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Ali Bin Ghaneim Al Hajri on Sunday 6th February, 2021. The MoU was agreed upon after considerations were made on the plights and living conditions of widows who live in disturbing environments considered unhealthy and unsafe for dwelling with their children.
While expressing joy over the visit, the Minister of the Federal Capital, Malam Bello said, the two dominant religions in the country; Christianity and Islam believes so much in the care for widows and orphans as well as other vulnerable people in the society especially as they too deserve the right to be treated fairly and to live equal like others.
Mr. Bello affirmed the readiness of the Administration to offer support to the International Organization by providing it with a befitting space for the establishment of it’s office and where orphans too can be taken care of. Head of Qatar Charity, Mr. Hamdi Said Muhammad applauded the FCT Minister for the giving them the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Nigerian society.
The minister further state that, arrangements are in top gear for acquisition of land capable of accommodating the organization’s office and building a world class hospital that will assist in taking care of vulnerable Nigerians. He pledged to sustain the good relationship existing between the Nigerian and Qatari Governments by supporting innovations that are created to serve the interest of all involved by ensuring the availability of direct flights between Doha and Abuja.
According to the Minister, the good relationship existing between the President of Nigeria and the Leadership of Qatar would be greatly utilized in fostering support to the good people of Nigeria.
Mr. Bello said that, “the FCT Administration considers it a priority of making Nigeria a healthy destination for visitors to bring forth their investment plans stressing, that, the hospital when completed, would help in addressing the health needs of Nigerians and many other foreigners.
He thanked the Ambassador and Qatar Charity for considering the challenges faced by widows and orphans in the FCT especially in the areas of health, education and accommodation which the government is continuously fighting to overcome.
While responding on behalf of the Government of Qatar, Ali Bin Ghaneim Al Hajri said “Nigeria is a wonderful country but is faced with numerous social challenges including widows and orphans welfare which must be tackled to make life easy”. He revealed that the housing project which is a priority of Qatar Charity would be commenced soon and expected to be completed by the end of the year to reduce the burden of Government and liberate widows from unfriendly environments.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Minister, Malam Bashir Mai-Bornu, Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmed, Mr Hamdi Said Muhammad head of Qatar Charity in Nigeria and other senior officials of the FCTA.
