Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), the secretariat of Nigeria’s National Council of Privatisation (NCP) has tapped a leading housing development advocate in the country, Festus Adebayo, into the reconstituted Housing Sector Committee on Bricks and Clay.
BPE Director General, Alex. A Okoh, conveyed the appointment to Adebayo in a letter dated March 11, 2021 with Ref. No. BPE/PTMD/HSC/2021/M3/1.
Okoh states that the Bureau is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that all privatised State Owned Enterprises (SOE) are functioning optimally among others.
To this end, BPE is constituting inter-agencies, and private sector committees to come up with viable suggestions and recommendations for the consideration of the Federal Government
Following the approval of the NCP chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, four sector committees on non-performing enterprises are being constituted with the aim of rejuvenating the ailing and moribund privatised enterprises in order to improve their economic performance in line with the government’s roadmap on the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP).
Consequently, the Housing Sector Committee on Bricks and Clay has been reconstituted. It was previously constituted and inaugurated on March 17, 2019.
The reconstituted committee which is billed to be inaugurated at 10am on Tuesday, March 23, at BPE Office in Abuja, will, according to Okoh, ‘’continue to be supporting the federal government of in its drive to rejuvenate the sub-optimal and moribund enterprises and creating a conducive environment for these Businesses and private sector participants in these sectors to thrive.’’
In the same letter announcing Adebayo’s appointment, the Bureau also announced the dissolution of the former Committee on Bricks and Clay, and commended the new appointee for his continued support of the government’s reform programme.
