The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Mr Bello Hassan as Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
It also confirmed Mr Mustapha Mohammed Ibrahim as the Executive Director (Operations) of the corporation.
A statement by the Director, Communication and Public Affairs at NDIC, Bashir Nuhu, said the confirmation was at the plenary of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, on Wednesday.
The committee chairman, Senator Uba Sani, said the committee established that the two appointments were in accordance with sections 54 and 83 of the NDIC Act No 16 of 2006 as amended.
When Senate President Ahmed Lawan presented the nominations to the Committee of Whole for vote, they were unanimously endorsed and consequently confirmed, NDIC stated.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on December 18, 2020 forwarded their names as nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
Hassan was the Director, Banking Supervision Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) since February 2020; he earlier served in the Operations Directorate and as Director, Other Financial Institutions Department of the apex bank and has over 30 years banking experience.
Meanwhile a statement from the Senate said the Managing Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Mr. Ahmed Lawan Kuru was also confirmed.
Also confirmed are Ebelechukwu F. Uneze and Aminu Ismail as Executive Directors of AMCON.
