Esv. Emmanuel Okas Wike, the National President, Nigerian Institution Of Estate Surveyors And Valuers (NIESV) at the weekend, inaugurated the 2020/2021 statutes and government relations committee of the institution.
Speaking during the occasion, the NIESV boss, said the Committee would regularly relate with government and its agencies in the interest of the Institution.
He charged the members of the committee to work hard to deliver on their mandate, stressing that their appointment is a “Call to Service”.
According to a statement by ESV. Saheed Makinde, the National Publicity Secretary of the institution, Wike also explained that the responsibilities is to study, analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, acts, enactments, edicts, resolutions of the various arms of government, side by side with the Constitution of the Institution and the Code of Professional Ethics, with the aim of identifying where they complement and or affect our profession negatively, and relate with government and the appropriate agencies for harmonization in the best interest of the profession, government and the general public.
“It should be noted that the responsibilities is to study, analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, acts, enactments, edicts, resolutions of the various arms of government, side by side with the Constitution of the Institution and the Code of Professional Ethics, with the aim of identifying where they complement and or affect our profession negatively, and relate with government and the appropriate agencies for harmonization in the best interest of the profession, government and the general public” he said.

Wike urged the committee to synergize with other Committees such as the Legal Committee and the Corporate Affairs Committee of the Institution noting that the Profession have a number of Issues to be addressed.
He noted that issues such as the Creation of Valuer General Position, Engagement of Estate Surveyors and Valuers to put values on assets declared by public office holders, Engineers wrongfully carrying out Valuation, Wrong positioning of members in public service should also be considered.
He emphasized the need to collectively tackle the issues out with Government whilst the Institution’s Interest should be paramount while relating with government and not otherwise.
He pledged the support of Management and the entire Council to the committee, congratulated them once again for being found worthy to serve the Institution and wish them success in the discharge of the tasking assignment ahead.
