Organisers of Nigeria Affordable Housing Finance and Innovation Summit and Expo have announced that all is set for the event’s 3rd edition.
The event with theme, ‘’Innovative solutions for large scale delivery of affordable housing,’’ and Sub-theme, ‘Cooperative and demand driven approach to affordable housing,’’ will hold from 13 – 14 November 2019 at NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.
According to the organisers, the objectives of NAHFIS 2019 is to proffer rapid and efficient access to affordable housing (rented and owned) by low and middle income earners both in the formal and informal sectors of the Nigeria economy. The summit will focus on technological innovations, housing finance models, off-takers’ cooperatives, public-private partnerships and their implications for large scale delivery of affordable housing.
While speaking to Housing News, the MD/CEO of NISH Affordable Housing Limited and Conference Convener, Yemi S.K Adelakun said this year’s conference will highlight some innovative strategies that will enhance the delivery of affordable housing in Nigeria.
According to him, NAHFIS, organised by NISH Affordable Housing Limited, in collaboration with strategic partners, is aimed at providing practical end to end solutions for rapid and revolving delivery of decent, and cost effective houses to low and medium income earners in the formal and informal sectors of the Nigerian economy. The goal is to proffer solutions that will deliver the houses for rent or purchase on a large scale and at affordable prices and single digit interest housing finance through finance, technology, cooperatives, strategic and systemic innovations.
To reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit and improve the living condition of millions of Nigerians, Adelakun believes that there is the need to embrace sustainable strategies of development and financing of affordable housing.
He said; ‘’Housing concerns everybody and shouldn’t be left to government alone. Of course government has to take the lead by creating an enabling environment and incentives, while the private sector has to tap into the opportunities in the market. But because affordable housing is not so profitable for developers, there is need for those who have the zeal to make social impact through the provision of affordable housing realise how best they can achieve this aim. The goal of this conference is to help them know how.’’
Another area of interest for the conference is to also attend to the demand side of housing. According to Adelakun, those who need affordable housing also have a role to play. The conference will establish how home seekers can effectively forge savings scheme towards equity contribution.

The conference will bring together those who have the technology to build fast and cost effective houses. According to him, there are new technologies that can build multiple houses a day, and these technologies and innovations will be unveiled for popular knowledge at the conference.
Conversations on how lands can be available and issues bordering on reducing the high mortgage interest rates in Nigeria will also be on the table.
Like it has been done in the agricultural sector, the conference will canvass for government intervention funds that will offer relaxed and affordable loans and conditions for owning a house.

Participants at the conference includes Federal, state and local government officials, institutions, functionaries and policy makers, law makers, captains of industries, housing off-takers, cooperatives, associations and corporations, development control authorities, professional institutions, investors and financiers, commercial, merchant and mortgage bankers, venture capitalists and capital market operators, micro-finance banks.

The event will also feature inauguration of Cooperative Housing Federation of Nigeria (CHF Nigeria) established to organise and empower off takers into a formidable force in the affordable housing equation through collaboration, self help and aggregation of savings for social capital formation. Housing Integrated Management Portal for one stop shop affordable housing transactions will also be launched at NAHFIEXPO 2019.
